The purpose of the Merchandise Requirements Planning System (MRP) is to provide the retail enterprise with the computerized facilities needed to plan its merchandise requirements. This implies planning to identify large number of purchases from a host of vendors in support of separate calendar events such as, spring, summer, fall, Christmas, Easter etc. In general, these merchandise purchases are made in units by item, but within some authorized dollar limits. etc. The planning year for a merchandise class can start any time and without limit on the seasons one can plan for, so long as the historic data that is available can differentiate a season. To conduct planning within this continuous process, the following information is needed for each Merchandise Class:
The number of items sold in each merchandise class and the following quantitative data:
The items on hand at each location; The purchase cost of each item (using the corporate average cost); The number of units sold by location and period for the last 12 periods on record; A replacement indicator.
The types of stores table and the classification of each existing store by its type. The store changes planned for the coming year by:
Store closings and their dates; Store type openings and dates
The economic forecast for the planning period by geography /location expressed as % of current activity, i.e. 5% growth is 1.05% of current activity.
The merchandise quantitative data (1) above, represents information which is available or can be created from data collected and maintained by RMS. Store changes and types of stores in the enterprise, (2) and (3) above, can be represented by a simple table and will be created within the planning module; however, the merchandise required for a new opening will be restricted to the MC being planned (to accumulate all the merchandise needed for a new store all merchandise classes must be similarly planned and included in the stores inventory). The economic forecast factors (4), need to be created from external data. A table will be provided by MRP to enter and edit/maintain such data by year and merchandise class.
Target Business Size: 10--1,000 Stores Pricing Structure: To be announced upon release.
