POS is typically selected and organized to support sales functions, make markdown or promotional price changes, introduce new items to sell, process returns, manage proceeds and report on customer sales activity.  Such reporting is done periodically.  The ORSI Store System provides for such reporting periodically and as a minimum, once per day.

The non-POS operations are performed by a separate system located at the back of the store.  The
ORSI Store System supports 'push-pull' operations in a cooperative mode with the central system.  The tasks supported by the Store System include:

  • The identification and request of needed merchandise,
  • The generation of PO's or PO worksheets,
  • The receiving of merchandise together with the necessary tracking instruments,
  • The transfer of merchandise to other stores/warehouses,
  • The preparation (labeling of merchandise),
  • The stocking of merchandise and tracking of its store location(s),
  • The counting of merchandise in support of 'Physical Inventory Valuations,'
  • The search to find the merchandise location to support customer or counting requests.

The non-POS operations are supported by on-demand communications with the central system.
